We know going solar can be complicated. We are here to help. These are some of the most common questions we get from homeowners.

The short answer is it depends. There are several factors that affect solar energy system cost. The main one is the size (total power output) of your system: the number of solar panels and the rated power output of each panel. (Power output can range from 320 watts up to 450 or more watts.) Adding battery storage will also affect the total cost. Our solar experts will work with you to determine your current and future energy usage to help size your system to fit your lifestyle, budget and energy goals.
Yes! We can seamlessly add Enphase IQ batteries to your solar panel system. They can help you reduce your overall energy bill by powering your house with excess solar energy after sunset, which is often the time of day with the highest electricity rate. Plus, you can rely on them to keep the lights on during grid outages.
This will depend on whether your home is 100% powered by electricity, and, if not, whether your utility provides both electricity and gas service. For instance, in California, PG&E provides both electricity and gas service for its customers. They receive a single bill, but with electricity and gas costs broken out. If you have separate utilities for gas and electric, then you’ll continue to get separate bills. Also, though you may have solar, you’ll likely still have some charges from your utility as many of them charge base monthly fees, plus any taxes.
For now, you can still take advantage of the federal 30% solar tax credit at the end of the year*. This federal incentive allows eligible homeowners to claim a credit of 30% of the cost of their solar energy system, potentially reducing the amount of federal income tax they owe. Your state and utility may also provide incentives, especially for installing solar batteries. Together, these incentives can help lower the overall cost of your system and shorten your payback period.
* The 30% solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is a federal incentive available to eligible taxpayers. Incentive availability, eligibility, and benefits may vary based on individual tax circumstances. SunPower does not warrant, guarantee, or otherwise advise its customers about specific tax outcomes. Consult your tax advisor regarding these solar tax credits and how they apply to your specific circumstances. You can also visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency for information on incentives available in your area.
Welcome to the SunPower family! Our solar experts will guide you throughout the process, from consultation and system design, to powering up your system.
By going solar with SunPower, you’re making a meaningful difference. With solar power plus battery storage, you’re taking control of your energy use and gaining peace of mind during power outages. You’re also helping protect the planet by powering your home with clean, renewable energy from the sun.
To start, we’ll discuss your energy usage now and your needs in the future (for instance, will you be adding a plug-in vehicle or converting gas appliances to electric, too?) to help design your custom system. While onsite, your advisor will likely want to check a few other things to help design the system, including:
Your home’s electrical setup and service
Site conditions and where to install hardware like batteries
Roof type, condition and orientation
We’ll also discuss your payment options, which can include paying for your system with cash up front, financing all or part of the cost with a solar loan, doing a power purchase agreement (PPA) or signing a solar lease. As part of the financing discussion, they may do a soft credit check that shouldn’t have any effect on your credit score.
We’re committed to providing the high-quality service and support you expect. If you need help with billing, your system, or payments, contact us at one of the following numbers:
