Eversource, National Grid, and Cape Light Compact customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut are now eligible to enroll SunVault® systems in ConnectedSolutions, a New England demand response program that enhances energy independence and rewards customers for helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Networking your SunVault system with other home storage batteries across the state, creates a shared supply of clean energy that reduces peak-time costs for everyone. In other words, you can help stabilize your local grid with excess energy and make some extra money in the process.
Earn extra cash
Sell energy stored in your SunVault back to the utility when it's needed and earn money every year on top of your electric bill savings and incentives.*Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs are available only in select locations. Benefits of these programs vary and are subject to change. Please check with your grid electricity provider to see if you are eligible.
Control your participation
Maintain full control over your battery settings while participating in a VPP to make sure your goals are met. As your priorities change, you can adjust your battery reserve levels or even decide whether to opt out of specific VPP events.
Help your community
Share your energy and reduce demand during peak times for a cleaner, stronger power grid across your state. Sharing energy with the grid also helps prevent future coal and gas plants from being built to provide this extra supply of energy.

What is ConnectedSolutions and how does it work?
ConnectedSolutions is a program which incentivizes customers who share stored energy when the New England electric grid needs it.
Customers are compensated by their local program administrator on a performance basis for the average kW of stored electricity they receive from the customer’s SunVault® storage system during dispatch events. The program runs in summer from June 1 – September 30. Event durations are a max of three hours and occur between the hours of 2pm and 7pm EST.
Am I eligible to participate?
If you live in Connecticut, Massachusetts or Rhode Island, own a SunVault system, and are a National Grid or Eversource electric customer, or are served by Cape Light Compact for energy efficiency services, then yes!
Eversource customers in New Hampshire are also eligible to participate as long as the annual enrollment cap has not yet been met. We encourage you to check the Eversource website for more information.
Can I still reserve backup energy for a power outage?
Your ConnectedSolutions program administrator will not schedule dispatch events if a severe storm is forecasted in your area.
During scheduled events, SunVault will continue to retain enough battery capacity to match your selected reserve level for unexpected outages. If at any time you want to reserve more battery capacity, you can adjust the setting in your mobile app. During non-event days, your battery will operate based on your preferences.
How is performance calculated?
Performance is calculated by your program administrator by taking the average kilowatts (kW) your system contributes per event, averaged over the season, and then compared to your typical battery use.
How much should I expect to earn in incentives?
The incentive earned depends on the most recent incentive rate and the average kW your battery contributes. The current incentive rate for Eversource customers in Massachusetts and Connecticut for 2022 is $225/kW for the summer. National Grid customers in Massachusetts will receive $275/kW for the summer season; Rhode Island customers will receive $400/kW.

Will I receive notification before events?
You may not receive notification before all events.
As a general rule, customers enrolled in the summer season should expect an event to be called most non-holiday weekdays as long as the grid is functioning normally (an event won’t be called if there are significant outages due to a storm). Eversource, National Grid and Cape Light Compact will not call an event if extreme weather is in the forecast.
What other incentives can I apply for?
Solar + storage systems are eligible for the 30% federal tax credit.*Tax credits subject to change. SunPower does not warrant, guarantee or otherwise advise its customers about specific tax outcomes. Consult your tax advisor regarding the solar tax credit and how it applies to your specific circumstances.
Massachusetts solar customers are also eligible to enroll in the SMART Program for additional incentives on SunPower Equinox® solar and SunVault storage systems. Rhode Island solar customers are eligible to enroll in the Small Scale Renewable Energy Growth Program.
