With one of the best solar incentive structures in the U.S., the state of New York is becoming a solar mecca. In fact, solar has become so popular in the New York that many people are choosing to go solar not only on their homes, but on their businesses, too.

For Scott A., a resident of Gardiner, NY, solar for his home came first. The team at SunPower by New York State Solar Farm designed and installed a 26.1 kW SunPower Equinox® system for his family home, composed of 78 AC solar panels.

AC solar panels generate more power

The "AC" designation is important because unlike conventional solar systems, the SunPower Equinox® AC home solar system is designed to capture more energy on shade-prone rooftops. With dense and highly prized tree growth across many communities in the Hudson Valley, AC modules enable more homeowners to go solar.

The solar system on the family's home and garage is expected to cover 100% of the home's electricity needs and save an estimated $350,000 over the next 25 years. As the family's needs evolve, EV charging or battery storage can easily be added to the system.

What's good for the home is great for the business

With his home now churning out clean energy, Scott turned to solar for his business. As owner of RYCOR, an HVAC company based in New Paltz, Scott clearly understands the benefit of smart energy use. The NYSSF team came through again, installing a 53 kW SunPower® Helix® system to provide major cost savings to the company's bottom line and offset their carbon emissions, too.

While NY state solar incentives won't last forever, the cost of solar continues to decrease – more than 43% in New York State over the last five years.* For both homes and businesses, solar is a proven way to save money, reduce carbon emissions and boost local jobs at the same time.
