Have you ever encountered an error in your SunPower Customer Portal stating that there is lost communication in your system or are you seeing flashing red light in your monitoring display?
If this happens, it is possible that you have an Internet Communication Down (ICD). This means that your SunPower system doesn’t report production to the SunPower server. In order to perform basic troubleshooting steps, you need to understand the SMS 1.x set up.
Components of SunPower Monitoring System (SMS 1.x - Wireless Monitoring)
Data Logger (Collector) - Connected to the Inverter and reads power generation information from the Inverter. It uses a wireless link to communicate with other components (Gateway, Wireless Display).
Gateway – Connected to the WIFI Router. It communicates wirelessly with Datalogger and Wireless Display. It sends the data from the Data Logger to SunPower over the Internet.
Wireless Display - It receives wireless data from the Gateway and displays the production and consumption data. It is powered by batteries.
Below are the troubleshooting steps that you can perform for this type of error. Note: Please make sure that you have internet connection before doing the steps.
Start the procedure by pressing the binding button on the Gateway for 1 second. Wireless light on the Gateway will then flash fast amber. A fast flashing amber light is an indication that the device is now on search mode.
Press the binding button on the Data logger for 1 second. Wireless light on the Data logger will then flash fast amber. A fast flashing amber light is an indication that the device is now on search mode. If the device is within the range of the Gateway, wireless light will then turn green in a few seconds.
If the Wireless Display is also unbound, press the binding button at the back of the display for 5 seconds. A binding message or icon will appear on the screen. If the device is within range of the Gateway, production numbers will appear on the screen.
End the rebinding process by pressing the binding button again on the Gateway. Wireless Light on the Gateway should then turn green.
