Editors Note: In 2020, SunPower announced the completion of the strategic spin-off of its manufacturing division into a separate business named Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd. As a result, SunPower has expanded its offerings to drive future growth. The SunPower Equinox® system now offers multiple panel options, including front- and back-contact panels, all of which are responsibly and rigorously quality tested to provide the best energy solution for your home.

At SunPower our customers are at the heart of everything we do. After all, our customers are the reason that we’ve spent the past 30 years innovating relentlessly to deliver the most advanced solar solutions powering our world and changing the future of energy.

In February, we asked our customers to share their solar stories for a SunPower Love Contest in return for an entry for a chance to win a champagne and chocolate gift basket. The response was overwhelming. In two weeks more than 200 people posted about their experience of switching to solar energy with SunPower, with the majority of the respondents giving us the highest possible rating.

For the few that indicated they were not fully satisfied with the experience, we made sure to put them in touch with our customer service team, which aims to engage and keep customers for life. (We recently won a Customer Experience Excellence Award from Tempkin Group for our companywide "Customer First!" initiative.)

And we thanked 10 entrants for their participation by holding a random drawing for the gift basket.

Here are excerpts from some of our favorite responses and some of their beautiful photos. To read more, visit our Customer Story page.

A solar music studio

“We installed solar panels on our office barn and have loved the look, the performance, the ecological good feel and the extended ecological benefits it offers our music businesses. Musicians who come to record in our recording studio enjoy the benefits of knowing their sessions are solar.”

Building a new home with SunPower solar

SunPower solar on a new home

“When the decision came for my wife and I to purchase a new construction home. We looked at that benefits of owning a house with energy efficient systems. Solar panels were at the top of our priority list of equipment to have in our new home. However, it was equally important to look for a manufacturer that was reliable and dependable. After weeks of research, SunPower was by far the most reputable and sought after company among home developers. The decision to choose SunPower has been the best decision ever. We have saved a lot on our electric bill as well as giving back to our environment. Thank you SunPower for providing excellent customer service and reliable equipment.”

Retiree says solar saves money

“When I retired in June 2014 and moved to sunny Palm Springs, CA, I had no idea how expensive electricity is here. I have a 2,500-square-foot, two-story home. Imagine my surprise when I got my first monthly electric bill for $850! I quickly made the decision to go solar and had 30 SunPower panels expertly installed on my roof by Hot Purple Energy. First, the cost savings: Since I had my panels installed, I have reduced my electric bill monthly. Given the average high temperatures here in the low desert, especially from April to November, this has been especially remarkable. As a retiree, I am especially cost-conscious. Second, the environmental benefits: I have produced 18,117 kWh of my own energy by harnessing the power of solar. Thanks to SunPower's monitoring reports that show various environmental impacts, I have avoided 13.8 tons of harmful CO2 emissions being dumped into our air. This is equivalent to not driving a car for 29,000 miles and 324 trees grown for 10 years. I am grateful that SunPower is helping me to reduce my carbon footprint and to do my part for improving the environment for all of us who live here in the beautiful Coachella Valley of California.”

No more sleepless nights worried about utility bill

SunPower solar lodge

“A year ago, my winter utility had me up nights, wondering how I could afford to keep the lights on in my seven-bedroom lodge. This winter, I opened my utility bill and smiled. My leased solar system generated enough power in the sunny summer months (to make up for the winter), and so far, my electric bill has been reduced significantly since I installed my system last spring. The savings and efficiency of the system have lifted a huge burden off my shoulders.”
